Learning

How does ARC Digital School work?

Pupils access their learning through a secure online platform. Lessons may include guided teaching, independent activities, quizzes, assignments and personalised teacher feedback.

Are lessons live or completed independently?

The balance depends on the pupil’s individual pathway. Learning may include live sessions, independent learning and one-to-one support where appropriate.

Can pupils work at their own pace?

Yes. Pupils can revisit activities and work through appropriately differentiated challenges, while still following an agreed timetable and learning plan.

What subjects are available?

Pathways may include English, mathematics, science, humanities, PSHE and wellbeing, Functional Skills, employability, animal care, independent living and personal development.

What qualifications can pupils work towards?

Qualification routes are selected according to the pupil’s age, starting points, needs and future aspirations. These may include Functional Skills, GCSE options and vocational qualifications.

How is progress monitored?

Progress may be monitored through completed activities, quizzes, assignments, teacher feedback, engagement information and formal review meetings.

Who is ARC Digital School designed to support?

ARC is designed for pupils who need a calm, flexible and personalised alternative to a traditional school environment.

Can ARC support autistic pupils?

We adapt communication, routines, lesson expectations and learning activities around the individual pupil’s strengths and needs.

Can pupils with anxiety learn from home?

Yes. Many pupils access education from home and may begin with a reduced or gradual timetable while confidence and engagement develop.

Does ARC support pupils with EHCPs?

Yes, where ARC can meet the identified needs. Provision may be planned around relevant Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes.

How is wellbeing supported?

Wellbeing is considered alongside academic progress. Support may include predictable routines, trusted adults, regular check-ins, therapeutic approaches and carefully managed expectations.

Is every pupil given the same timetable?

No. Timetables are personalised according to the pupil’s needs, agreed learning hours, curriculum priorities and readiness to engage.

Admissions

Who can make an enquiry?

Parents, carers, schools, local authorities, Virtual Schools, social workers, health professionals and other relevant professionals may contact ARC.

Can a pupil start during the academic year?

Yes. Start dates are considered individually and depend on the information available and the arrangements that need to be agreed.

What information will ARC request?

We may request school reports, support plans, an EHCP where applicable, attendance information, relevant professional reports and details of current provision.

Is there an admissions assessment?

We gather information about the pupil’s learning, wellbeing, engagement, starting points, needs and planned outcomes before confirming whether ARC is suitable.

Can the placement begin gradually?

Yes. A carefully planned, gradual introduction may be appropriate for pupils who have experienced anxiety or a period out of education.

What happens after the first conversation?

We will explain what information is required, discuss suitability and set out the next steps clearly.

Funding & Placements

Who can fund a placement?

Funding arrangements may involve local authorities, schools, Children’s Services, Virtual Schools, alternative provision budgets or private family arrangements.

Do you publish a standard price list?

No. Every placement is planned individually, so costs depend on learning hours, curriculum requirements, support, reporting and review arrangements.

Can schools commission part-time provision?

Yes. Part-time or blended arrangements may be considered as part of an agreed personalised package.

Can local authorities commission placements?

Yes. We work collaboratively with local authority SEND and commissioning teams.

Can families arrange private placements?

Private arrangements may be discussed, although suitability, curriculum needs and the proposed programme must still be considered.

How are placement costs confirmed?

A clear proposal is provided after discussion and review of the pupil’s needs and the provision required.

Families

How involved are parents and carers?

Families are important partners. Communication arrangements are agreed as part of the pupil’s placement.

How will I know how my child is progressing?

Progress may be shared through feedback, reports, messages and formal review meetings, according to the agreed placement.

Who should I contact if I have a concern?

Families will be given clear contact information for the relevant tutor or member of staff.

Can parents view completed work?

Access arrangements will depend on the learning platform and the individual course, but progress and feedback will be shared appropriately.

Will families be involved in reviews?

Yes. Families and relevant professionals are encouraged to contribute to formal reviews and future planning.

Accessing online learning

Technology

What equipment does a pupil need?

A suitable laptop or desktop computer and reliable internet access are recommended. Individual requirements will be discussed before the placement begins.

Can pupils use a tablet or telephone?

Some activities may work on smaller devices, but a laptop or desktop computer usually provides the best learning experience.

How do pupils log in?

Pupils receive secure login details and instructions before their learning programme begins.

Is technical support available?

Yes. We will help pupils and families with initial access and resolve reasonable platform or login difficulties.

What happens if the internet stops working?

Families should notify ARC as soon as possible. Alternative arrangements or catch-up support may be considered according to the circumstances.
